Connor X Reader

From the very beginning, you knew that something bad was going to happen that day. You could feel it. Maybe you got this sensation because since the start of the week it had been raining almost non-stop. As if to foreshadow what was about to happen, the skies turned from their normal baby blue to dark, angry greys. Occasionally, there would be a half hour or so where the rain would cease. That was the perfect opportunity for you to leave the Homestead and venture out toward the meeting that was about to be held.

A Templar meeting.

You changed out of your normal attire, which consisted of the traditional assassin’s robes you wore every day, to a dark red coat that reached your hips. You buttoned up the vest, made sure your hidden blades were hidden underneath all the layers of fabric, and placed the Templar ring on your finger. You made sure that Achilles wasn’t at home when you did this. And you definitely sure Connor wasn’t around. If Connor ever saw you like this…

You didn’t want to think of what would happen.

You looked at yourself in my mirror before leaving. Your (hair length) (hair color) hair was flowing down your face, framing it and it brought out your (eye color) eyes. The red vest you had on was accompanied by white pants and black boots. The Red Cross on the ring seemed to shine evilly as you looked down at it, feeling an emotion that you didn’t really know and you didn’t really like.

But this was your job. You had to do it. You always followed orders.

You walked down the steps of the big red bricked house and looked around to see that the day was looking even more horrible than it did last time you checked. The dark grey storm clouds were rolling in the sky and lighting up occasionally when lightning would flash. You held your head down and quickly walked towards the forest before any of the Homesteaders could see you.

It was a long ways walk until you got to the place where the meeting was supposed to be held. You preferred to walk instead of to take a horse. None of the Templars at the meeting ever suspected a thing of you. To them, you lived in Boston and carried out what you were told to do without ever causing them any problems. They never suspected you to be a follower of the Creed and if things went your way, they would never find out.

The ground was mushy as you walked across the forest. Hearing all the animals sing their song and being so close to nature made you think of Connor. Connor was the very definition of perfect. He was the epitome of goodness. The embodiment of kindness and the representation of brave. You couldn’t find enough words to compliment him. He was unlike any other man you had ever meant before. You remember when you first arrived at the homestead and met Connor for the first time. It was like there was a connection between both of you; as if you were destined to become friends or maybe even something more.

He had helped you so much those few days. A friendship between you two blossomed quickly. It was something that you held near and dear to your heart, something you treasured. As you walked and thought about this, you thought about how you were endangering your friendship. You knew perfectly well what Connor thought of Templars. If he ever were to find out about you, everything that you have built over the years would be destroyed in an instant.

As you walked deeper and deeper into the woods you also got lost deeper into your thoughts. You didn’t hear the horse that was coming towards you…

“(your name),” You heard a voice call from behind you and you froze.

You knew that voice well; there was no way you could ever forget that voice. Connor.

Connor had been heading towards the Homestead after a long trip. He had spotted the dark red color of your jacket from afar, and though he was confused to see you wearing something else than your beloved robes, he was happy to see you. He had missed you while he was away. Getting off his horse and petting its back as he got off, he made his way towards you with a slight smile on his face.
His deep brown eyes stared into yours as you nervously looked back into his eyes and hid your hands behind your back.

“Are you alright?” He asked, his small smiling disappearing and his expression was replaced with a worried one.

“Yes, why wouldn’t I be?” You said quickly and mentally chided yourself.

You had to act natural.

“How have you been? How was your trip?” You asked.

“It was a successful trip and I have acquired the information I needed.” As Connor spoke, thunder clapped in the distance and small drops began to gently fall from the moody clouds. “We must return before it starts to rain. It seems a strong storm is coming.”

Before you could say anything, Connor placed a hand on the small of your back and started to guide you towards his horse. You couldn’t just go back to the Homestead, even if you wanted to. If you didn’t make it to the meeting it would certainly arise suspicion towards you. You could not afford that. As you tried to think of a way to escape this situation, you didn’t notice that Conner grabbed your hand to help you on the horse when he froze.

He had grabbed the hand that had the Templar ring.

He stared at the silver ring with the damned Red Cross before slowly looking back into your eyes, who were worriedly staring at him. You didn’t know what to say. You felt your breath catch in your throat and you lost the ability to breathe when you saw emotions flicker through his eyes. First it was confusion, then hurt, the anger.

To make matters worse, it started to rain.

Connor stood dangerously still as he looked from you towards the ring.

“Connor, you don’t understand-“

“What I understand is that you lied to me.” He said as he glared at the ring on your finger. He wanted to be rational and think about this, but he couldn’t contain the feeling he felt inside.

He had feelings for you. Strong feelings. What whatever he had felt before felt like it had begun to shatter the long he started at the ring on your finger.

“You did not only betray me but you betrayed the creed we-I live by.”

“No,” You said as you felt your eyes start to water. “I didn’t betray you or the creed. I could never do such a thing!”

“Then how do you explain this?!”

Connor wasn’t the type of person to yell. He was very well at keeping his emotions in check. Seeing him look at you with the expression he was staring at you made your (eye color) water even more. You have never seen him this angry…at you. You couldn’t even remember a time where he had been angry at you. You had worked so hard to befriend him, seeing as he was a very serious person. The feelings that you had developed towards him were obviously returned by him. The past few days had gone by so well…now things were all ruined.

“Explain this to me!” He said as he grabbed you by your shoulders and desperately looked into your eyes.

Something that he had valued greatly and had considered himself lucky to have was your loyalty to him. The fact that he could tell you anything. The fact that you would always be there when he needed you and vice versa. At the moment, as it rained over you guys, as the clothes you both wore began to get soaking wet, he felt as if you had just laughed at his friendship. Like you used him. He had been sorting out his feelings, knowing that the strong emotion he felt towards you was love. And after such a long time of shutting people out and letting himself feel something towards you he receives this? Betrayal?

She was part of a group of people that he most hated in this world. She worked for the same group that Charles Lee was a part of. That his father was a part of. He felt hatred pour into his veins but it was hatred for those men. For the Templars. He wanted to feel that way towards you but he just couldn’t. He only felt hurt.

“C-Connor, I-“

“You knew exactly how to get information from me-how much did you tell them?”

“Nothing, I swear! Connor listen to me. I am an Assassin, like you. I have never lied about that.”

“The ring on your finger says otherwise.”

As the rain fell from the heavens, it almost hurt as you were being pelted by the water droplets. The water caused a loud roar as you were being held in his hands and your conversation continued. You reached a hand over to your pocket and with a shaky hand, dug out a folded up, old piece of yellow paper.

“It may seem that way but t-this is the order I received from Europe. It’s from the Assassins. I was ordered to join the Templars and lead the information I gathered from them to the Assassins. Not the other way around.” You explain as he took the paper from you and opened it, despite the rain, and began to read it. “It was to keep George Washington safe. That’s why I always left your side when your father was around. He couldn’t see me because then he would know. I never lied to you, Connor. I swear it. I could never lie to you.”

The note was difficult to read; the weather was not helping your situation either. It was dark and stormy, but Connor could make out where the paper ordered you to do just as you had explained. You always carried around that paper in your pocket, for fear that this situation would happen. He shouldn’t have gotten so angry. But just that thought of you being a part of the Templars who hurt his people…you being a part of the group his revenge was directed towards…it was something he couldn’t accept.

A cold wind started to blow that caused you to fold your arms around your body and shivered. A few stray tears had fallen from your eyes but they had camouflaged with the raindrops that rolled down your face. He looked up from the note, which by now had been damaged the rain, and into your (eye color) eyes.

“This is all true?”

“One hundred percent,” you nodded. “It’s all true.”

He saw honesty in your eyes. That was another thing Connor was good at. He was a good judge of character. He walked towards your shivering form and embraced you. His large, strong, body covered you from the rain and brought you immediate warmth. His face found itself in the nook of your neck and if this would have been in different circumstances, you would have blushed. This is the closest Connor has ever been to you.

“I believe you…I am sorry.”

“No, this is all my fault. I shouldn't have kept this from you or Achilles. I should have told you.” You respond.

He pulled away from you and again, if the circumstances had been different, you would have seen his blush. He was so close to you and so many things had been running through your head, you leaned forward and connected your lips to his. He froze as you kissed him and for a second you thought that you were doing the wrong thing. A crazy thing. You could have lost his friendship once today and now you risked losing it again!

You pulled away and quickly apologized for you actions.

“(your name),” He said as he looked at you. “Do not apologize.”

His hand caressed your face gently before pulling you towards him, this time he connected his lips to yours.

The rain didn’t bother you two anymore. Neither did the thunder or the lightning. All that mattered now was that you two were together. Conner had you in his arms and your mind was spinning as your lips moved together in sync.

Conner was glad that you hadn’t betrayed him or the creed. Because he needed you. He needed this. And he was never, ever, going to let you go.
